More than 4 million use GSM services in Belarus

The number of GSM mobile phone subscribers in Belarus exceeds 4.13 million.Belarus has three GSM operators: Mobile Digital Communications, the country’s first GSM provider also known as Velcom; Mobile TeleSystems (MTS); and Belarusian Telecommunications Network known as BeST, which began commercial operation on December 19.
MTS had 2.18 million subscribers as of February 1. More than 70,000 people subscribed to the service in January.

More than 1.95 million people reportedly used Velcom’s service on February 1. Some 65,000 subscribed to the network last month.

Velcom covers 63 percent of the country’s territory where 90 percent of the population live. It has 1,156 base stations in Belarus and has 230 roaming partners in 114 countries.

The MTS network covers 57 percent of the country’s territory where 90 percent of the population reside. The company has more than 1,330 base stations in Belarus and 175 roaming partners in 101 countries.

BeST had about 2,000 subscribers on February 1.
