MTS to launch GPRS services in April 2006

Mobile TeleSystems /MTS/ plans to put GPRS data transmission into service in April 2006, the company has told today’s press conference.GPRS services will be available within the whole MTS network. At the beginning of February the GSM operator would put GPRS into a one-month testing in Minsk and Minsk oblast only.

As MTS specialists have noted, GPRS tariffs will be competitive, tariffing will be carried out according to the traffic level.

Today MTS services are available in every oblast, regional centers and towns of Belarus. The mobile communications network covers some 57 per cent of the territory. The subscriber base totals over 2,180 million people. The MTS company accounts for about 52 per cent of the Belarusian market.
